My Turn: Photographer to Bride

Today we are thrilled to feature the gorgeous wedding of one of our favorite photographers, Ashley, of Virginia Ashley Photography in Richmond, Virginia. She is an expert at capturing the beauty of weddings, so we knew that her wedding would be something really special. We hope you enjoy hearing the perspective a photographer turned bride. Welcome, Ashley!

My Turn: Photographer to Bride

Featured Wedding: Ashley and Justin

I have been a photographer for over 4 years now. I’ve spent many weekends photographing weddings for so many amazing couples. Last month, it was finally my turn! My sweet husband, Justin, and I got married on August 5th, 2016, and it really was one of the best days ever.

It was such a wonderful feeling to be surrounded by so many loved ones. Plus, it didn’t feel too bad being dressed up like a princess either!

Featured wedding: Ashley and Justin

It was a magical day and one I won’t soon forget!

Featured Wedding: Ashley and Justin

Being a bride was such a fun treat. I had to put aside my photographer tendencies for the day and just enjoy everything. It was amazing! However, up until the day, I made sure to take advantage of my knowledge from the wedding industry. I tried to work with my vendors as much as I could to set our day up for success. I trusted their professional expertise and knew they would help make our day a success.

Featured Wedding: Ashley and Justin

When I was getting ready, I made sure to have a room with plenty of natural light available to help produce the best photos.

Featured Wedding: Justin and Ashley

For the ceremony, we chose 6PM because that was when the sun was lower in the sky and didn’t shine as bright in our photos.

Featured Wedding: Justin and Ashley

Even for our exit, I kept our photos in mind. I made sure to choose longer sparklers because sometimes the sparklers end up getting lit earlier than the bride and groom are ready to walk out. I’ve had some weddings where guests light the sparklers super early and then there are no pretty sparklers for the bride and groom to run through! I made sure we wouldn’t have that problem.

Featured Wedding: Justin and Ashley

Plus, Superior Celebrations really spoiled us with their sparklers. They lasted long enough for Justin and I to walk through the line several times and have more opportunities for our photographer to get the shot. It was perfect!

Even though it was our wedding day, I wanted to make sure my vendors (aka my friends) felt special too. I wanted them to be able to enjoy dinner and to relax, because sometimes as a vendor you get shoved into a back room and eat a cold meal on the floor. It’s not as glamorous as it looks sometimes!  I made sure my vendors had a table dedicated to them at our reception and during dinner they were able to eat at our taco bar and enjoy the meal along with everyone else!

Featured Wedding: Justin and Ashley

I also tried to make sure we had different and fun details throughout our wedding day to make the photos extra special. Being in the industry, you can see a lot of the same details repeated at multiple weddings. I tried to add some variety to give my vendors a fresh perspective.

Featured Wedding: Ashley and Justin

One of the many things I learned while planning our wedding was that you can’t please everyone. While you want to throw this fun party for your loved ones to enjoy, ultimately you have to do what works best for you and your spouse. Maybe not everyone likes tacos, but if you love them—go for it!  And good luck with your wedding planning! 🙂

Thank you, Ashley, for sharing your day with us! We hope you enjoyed seeing Ashley and Justin’s beautiful wedding. Make sure you visit her photography site and check out her blog. She is an inspiring photographer to follow!

5 Essential Wedding Planning Apps

5 Essential Wedding Planning Apps

The last decade bears witness to a huge shift in wedding planning. What was once represented by a massive binder full of lists, magazine clippings, and post-it-notes has been replaced by everyone’s favorite electronic device: the smartphone. Say wha??

Five essential wedding planning apps

Source: Pexels

There is an app for just about everything, and today’s bride will find an abundance of resources a mere download away. With so many options available, we have taken the trouble (so you don’t have to!) and found the five best apps for wedding planning. Say goodbye to that binder and streamline your planning in just a few easy steps.

5 Essential Wedding Planning Apps

1. Wedding Wire

Best Wedding Planning Apps

Source: Wedding Wire

Wedding Wire is a one stop site that covers almost every base of your wedding planning. From budgeting, to guest lists, to seating charts, to vendors…ah, this is where it strikes gold. While the Wedding Wire app provides all sorts of helpful tasks and to-dos, their list of vendors is what makes them extraordinarily helpful to the busy bride. Think of it like Yelp but for bridal vendors. With ratings, reviews, and contact info next to each vendor listing, finding and securing a vendor has never been easier! A vendor listing will look like this:

Best Wedding Planning Apps

Oh, why look at that! Shameless plug: Superior Celebrations won a 2016 Wedding Wire Couples Choice Award and the 2016 Weddi Award for Customer Excellence in the Favors and Gifts category. Wedding Wire utilizes user feedback in a way that benefits everyone. Available for both iOS and Android, you can download their app here.

2. Joy

Most couples do not have the luxury of having ALL their friends and family in one state. Often, planning includes a cross-country amalgamation of guests. This beautiful app, Joy, provides a space for the bridal couple, wedding party, family, and friends to converge and participate in the wedding plans.

Best wedding planning apps

Source: Joy

Joy offers the advantages of paperless invites, multiple admins, and even has a place for travel itinerary! Yes, it’s a great place to sort all of your out-of-town peeps. What’s more, Joy aspires to be the “ultimate icebreaker” in bringing together everyone who takes part in your wedding. It is this very feature that sets this free app apart from others. The fact that community is at its core makes this app a beautiful tool to enhance your wedding for everyone.

3. The Knot

Today, we rely so heavily on apps (and the internet) that sometimes it is hard to remember what we did before we had this many resources at our disposal. Well, the brides of the 90’s and early 2000’s will tell you: magazines. Yes, prior to Pinterest and savvy planning apps the predominant space for wedding planning was the wedding magazine aisle. And the leading magazine in the wedding industry B.A. (before apps) was The Knot Magazine. A resource available online and in magazine stands, The Knot would showcase “the dress” while also offering constructive wedding planning advice.

The Knot Magazine

Source: The Knot

Today, The Knot Magazine offers their brides customizable wedding websites, registries, and planning tools. Their app mirrors the online site but also showcases vendors. Like Wedding Wire, couples can weigh in and rate their vendors. So what makes it equal to or even better than Wedding Wire? Ten years more experience. While Wedding Wire was founded in 2006, The Knot started in 1996. When looking at an industry it’s always best to locate the leaders. The Knot is a groundbreaking leader in the wedding industry. You must check them out–side note, The Knot also features Superior Celebrations as a 2016 The Knot Best of Weddings Pick.

4. Wedding Budget Calculator

It’s not the most fun to talk about, and it certainly has no bells or whistles, but the Wedding Budget Calculator is the perfect place to stop and evaluate where your money goes for your wedding.

The tricky thing about a wedding is—it always costs more than you think. A “wedding budget” sounds mean and restrictive until you see how freeing it can be.

The Wedding Budget is a great app for calculating all of the costs involved in executing your event. This is not your “feel good,” happy-go-lucky app. Instead, the Wedding Budget Calculator offers you a bare-bones synopsis of what money/funds are available for you to use. Often a source of contention, the budget is a very important place for wedding couples to come together and work through the details. We like this app because it offers a no-nonsense approach to what can be a convoluted and dramatic part of the wedding planning. Kudos for simplicity, Wedding Budget Calculator!

5. Zola

Now that we’ve paved the way for your wedding planning it’s time to move on to the best part–gifts! You can forgo the old-school method of scanning barcodes in Target and instead offer your guests the option of gifting activities, contributing to honeymoon funds, and buying your dishes.

The best wedding planning apps

Source: Zola

What’s helpful about this approach to registering is that multiple guests can contribute to one gift if you mark it as Group Gifting. You can also control the shipping of your gifts and determine when an item will arrive. And the very best part? You can exchange everything online. Yes, no driving all over tarnation and no waiting in long lines at customer service.

We are fortunate to live in a time such as this! Mobile apps can totally change your wedding planning game. We hope this helps you streamline your wedding planning and shaves some of the stress off your life. Happy planning!

Featured: Baby Girl Shower

Featured Party: Baby Girl Shower

When it comes to planning baby showers there are usually two speeds: boy and girl. Planning a shower around a baby boy finds themes like Peter Rabbit, baseball, and a timeless classic, ducks. And while you can parade your tables with Peter Cottontail and nostalgic bundles of baseballs you will find limits to the amount of “fluff” available.

And then you have baby girl showers. There seems to be no limit to the amount of themes available for baby girl: Parisian poodles, enchanted fairytale, sugar and spice, unicorns, butterflies…the list is endless. Because when it comes to “girly” there is always more glitter, and always more fluff. Problematic? We’ll let you be the judge.

At Superior Celebrations, we like to showcase events that inspire and delight. Whether that event is a simple backyard barbecue or a black-tie affair, we love to feature those celebrations that elevate moments into memories and stand out as truly superior.

Celebrating the arrival of that first baby is a special hallmark for all couples. It is perfectly fitting that your first baby’s shower be over-the-top, as was the case for mommy-to-be Carlee.

Baby Girl Baby Shower

Source: @NoeVier

Carlee and her husband Louis are blessed to welcome a sweet baby girl in just a few short weeks! They were gracious enough to let us share with you some of the details from their precious baby shower celebrating their baby girl.

Carlee is part of a large family, and tradition prompts the “aunties” to throw a shower for every new baby that gets added to the brood. Because this is Carlee’s first, the aunties pulled all the stops to give her a fantastic celebration of all things pink, ruffled, and covered with glitter!

Guests walked up a walkway lined with an arbor of pink balloons. No secret a party is happening here!

Baby girl baby shower

A pink teddy bear and princess balloon greeted every guest at the doorbell. Is that a tiara on the teddy bear? Why, yes. Yes, it is.

Baby girl baby shower

Gold sequined table runners lined every table, and guests got to take away a bottle of “It’s a Girl” O.P.I nail polish as a favor. Um, yah. Major score on the party favors!

Baby girl baby shower

The floral arrangements also carried out the “royal” theme with golden crowns for a vase.

Baby girl baby shower

Carlee’s cake was a rosy affair with a gorgeous sprinkle of glitter on the icing. And what’s a cake without it’s very own crown?

Baby girl baby shower

Guests were invited to craft up their very own headband or bow for baby girl. She will not be wanting in the accessory department!

headband station

With all the pink floating around, hand-dipped strawberries were an absolute necessity. Chocolate-dipped fruit is a great sweet to serve because guests can rationalize eating “fruit.” {Wink, wink}

Baby girl baby shower

What’s a party without a photo booth? Guests gathered around to pose with the mommy-to-be. Photo booths are always a fun way to get your guests moving. The photos make for a great guest book!

Baby girl baby shower

Overall, it was a perfectly sweet and girly celebration of a new life coming into the world. We are so happy for you, Carlee and Louis. Congratulations and thank you for sharing your photos with us!

How to Properly Celebrate Labor Day

How to Properly Celebrate Labor Day

Summer is at an end and we are all looking to Labor day as the last hurrah of summer festivities. Parents who have already sent their children off to school are bemoaning the speedy arrival of a four-day weekend, and many of us are scratching our heads in perplexity at what Labor day is even about.

The history of Labor day is a relatively short one in the scope of American history. New York was the first state to celebrate Labor day on Tuesday, September 5, 1882. Tuesday. See, parents? It could be worse. Arriving about ten years after the Industrial Revolution, Labor day answered the call for a “workingmen’s holiday.” By 1884, the idea of Labor day spread throughout the states. Congress sealed the deal by passing an act for the first Monday of every September to be a national holiday honoring the workers of America.

Ok, we have given you just enough history to take to your BBQ to impress your friends. Moving on.

So how do we celebrate Labor Day? Like most American holidays–with an abundance of delicious food, of course. Nonetheless, we have a few ideas beyond your menu to get you into the proper spirit of Labor Day.

How to Properly Celebrate Labor Day

1. Rest

To “labor” is to work at a difficult and/or exhausting task. The very name of this holiday we celebrate reminds us that people work long and hard to fuel our land and culture. Therefore, one of the most important tenets of this holiday is to take a step back from work and rest. Sleeping in, lounging by the pool, and binge-watching Netflix are all perfect options for honoring the “workingmen of America.” And yet, this very coin has two sides.

The reason most parents grumble about Labor day is because they are actively working (ha! laboring) to get their summer-sleepy children back into rigorous school schedules. Whatever progress they’re making, Labor day threatens to truncate. Use this four-day weekend to center your kids and family before plunging into what is sure to be a busy semester. Stay in pajamas all morning, watch a movie in the afternoon, and play with friends on one of the last long nights of summer.

And that brings us to the next item on the agenda, play.

2. Play

Labor day is a day to get outdoors and be active. Remember, shorter days are on the horizon. Use up the sunshine and go play outside!

The summer of 2016 will go down in the books as the “Summer of Ridiculous Pool Floats.” Gone are the days of simple lounge floats or inter-tubes floating innocently in a pool. Those elementary floating devices are replaced by giant swans, donuts, and even pizza. Basically, if you can think it, you can make it into a pool float. If you don’t use Labor day as a last-ditch effort to capture the essence of Summer ’16…well, you will surely regret it.

Labor Day activities

Source: Amazon.com

If you have already checked Ridiculous Pool Float off of your bucket list, then you are safe to move on to football. For many Americans, Labor day signals the end of summer and the beginning of a sincerely-beloved season: football. Get into the spirit of football season by gathering your peeps into a fun game of flag-football.

Not athletically inclined? That’s ok–you’re in good company. 90% of Americans will spend their Labor day watching rather than playing football. This Labor day you can watch Florida State play Ole Miss in the Citrus Bowl

3. Eat

You rested, you played, and now you are ready to eat. A fitting farewell to summer requires that you bust out the grill and cook outside. You can keep it simple with hotdogs and sliced watermelon, or go out on a limb and use this menu we put together for you. Hint: we always prefer to go the extra mile in making the most out of every holiday.

Mexican Corn Dip

Every successful BBQ starts with chips and dip. Have you ever plunged into a dip so delicious that you forget all about the chips and just grab a spoon? Well, Mexican corn dip is one of those dangerously addictive dips that laughs in the face of moderation and control. So consider yourself  warned.

BBQ Sriracha Ribs

After stuffing yourself with dip, you can dive into these fabulously spicy ribs. What better way to celebrate the “workingmen’s holiday” then to hunker down with a plate of juicy ribs? One thing is for sure: you should not wear anything white while eating these babies.

Chocolate Sheet Cake

You absolutely have to finish your meal with a luxurious dessert. A chocolate sheet cake fulfills the requirements of  being: A.) Indulgent. B.) Easy. and 3.) American. Sheet cake is one of our nation’s greatest desserts besides Apple Pie. You have to finish off your meal with a nod towards patriotism.

We hope your Labor Day is a day of rest, relaxation, and enjoyment. Take a breather and remember all the hard work that goes into making this nation move.

Back to School: 10 Tips to Make It Easy and Fun

Back-to-School: 10 Tips to Make It Easy & Fun

It’s that time of year where parents are giddy with excitement and kids are mourning the end of summer. That’s right, it’s back to school time. Raise your hand if you’re excited.

To ease your children (and yourself) back into the structured routine of early wake-ups, afternoon homework, and school nights, we have put together a list of fun and helpful tips for going back to school. After all, back to school is a momentous celebration and we wouldn’t want to miss the opportunity to make it superior. Wink, wink.

Back-to-School Tips

1. Back-to-School Countdown

The first day of school is a momentous occasion, and for those kids who are reluctant to return, it helps to build anticipation. While it’s not an advent calendar leading up to Christmas, a simple paper chain countdown can be used to remind your kids of all the fun things to expect in going back to school. For instance, my kids are getting pumped about seeing their friends, using their new lunch boxes, and returning to their favorite after-school programs. Counting down to the first day of school has been going on for at least a month in this household (or all summer if you ask us parents). A paper chain is especially helpful for younger kids who cannot yet grasp the concept of time.

2. Weekly Wardrobe Planning

One of the many things I have learned as a parent is that most kids want to have a say in their daily appearance. I have had many a battle over what is or isn’t appropriate for my daughter to wear to school. Some of the arguments have started with me saying the following:

“No, rain boots aren’t necessary when it’s ninety degrees out and sunny.”

“A bathing suit cover-up isn’t really considered ‘clothes’ by your principal.”

“I guarantee you will regret wearing that scratchy Easter dress when you’re sitting in class for six hours.”

The list goes on–and that doesn’t even cover the conversations I have with my five-year-old son.

To cut out the morning arguments, I let my kids have a say in their weekly wardrobe on Sunday nights and together we label which days they will wear them. This is especially helpful for the days they have P.E. or an art class. You can keep this super simple with just a slip of paper tacked onto a hanger, or you can make it cute by following this tutorial by Uncommon Designs.

3. Morning Hygiene Caddy

You can be the most scrupulous of organizers and find that five minutes before leaving the house–a toothbrush disappears and someone hasn’t yet brushed their hair. Ugh. A good way to combat this kind of chaos is to have a morning hygiene caddy for each kid. Depending on their needs, you can fill this with a toothbrush, toothpaste, washcloth, hairbrush, and/or hair products. Set these babies in the bathroom the night before and your morning will be so much smoother! And, like the wardrobe planning, your kids will enjoy taking responsibility for their appearance.

4. Creative School Lunches

One of the biggest deals for elementary school children is the bounty of their lunch box. Gone are the days of the bologna sandwich. Kids these days are sporting Bento boxes full of healthy little snacks and bites. I have found that kids don’t need fancy so much as variety. I try to incorporate as many vegetables and proteins as possible without having them know my intentions. You gotta be sneaky. Here are two of my favorite ways to ditch the sandwich and please the kiddos:

Lunchbox Kebobs: because food on a stick is always better. You can stack their favorite meats, cheese, and fruit/veggies on little skewers and have your kid win recess because their food looks so pretty. Just remind them to quickly dispose of their skewer and to not use them as swords. *ahem.

Corn-Dog Muffins: Did you know you can actually sneak veggies into corn dogs? My kids love corndogs and feel pretty special when they get to have one at school. Plus, this recipe sneaks in some veggies and was created by yours truly.

5. Make-Ahead Breakfasts

While we’re talking about food–how about breakfast? School mornings are rushed and frenzied. Oftentimes, breakfast–the most important meal of the day–is inadequate in fueling growing minds and bodies. I have found that the best way to get a nutrient-dense breakfast into my kids is to make it before the rush of school morning. These two recipes are packed with protein and brain-fueling food AND can be made days before you eat them.

Fruit and Yogurt Parfaits: Packed with fruit and loaded with calcium, you can use mason jars, tupperware, or disposable cups to pack up for a quick and nutritious breakfast. I like the idea of bagging up granola separately to toss in right before eating!

Freezer Breakfast Burritos: Another favorite make-ahead breakfast are these breakfast burritos that can be made even a month in advance. Load them with eggs, sausage, cheese, and veggies for a protein-packed start to the day. I find that wrapping them in paper towels first and then sealing with wax paper or cling-wrap makes for easy microwaving.

6. Back-to-School Photo

If you don’t document the first day of school then it didn’t happen. Just kidding. With so many great free printables out there, you can easily chronicle your child’s first and last day of school, and see the growth/changes that one year makes. Check out these first- and last-day free printables from The Crafted Sparrow.

Another cute idea is to start a tradition with their graduating class teeshirt and watch them grow into over the years. This is especially cute if you start it around pre-school age!

7. Back-to-School without Tears

If your child is starting kindergarten or struggles with separation anxiety, the phrase “back to school” can be a trigger for major anxiety. You can expect tears, tantrums, and a general sense of misery during those first few weeks of school. I’ve done this twice over and I will say getting your child to feel secure and even happy to go to school takes time. A great way to encourage them and perhaps ease them into the week is to send them off with a reminder that you are thinking of them while they are away. You can find some matching bracelets or necklaces and print off this free printable to give to them.

Another useful tool for school jitters is bribery. Yep. Find a prize that they can earn by going to school every day without tears. For small children a full week without tears can feel like an enormous task so make sure you break it down for them each day. This “No Cry Goodbye Card” is a sweet and simple way to show them how they earn their reward.

8. Back-to-School Party

You can get kids excited to return to school by gathering several of their friends for a back-to-school party. Decorate with notebooks, chalkboards, and red apples to get them in the mood for all things school. This is a good thing to do especially if you have been traveling during the summer and your child hasn’t spent time with their school friends. They will feel more excited and comfortable on that first day if they get to see their friends beforehand.

9. Homework Station

Homework is the task that kids and parents alike both dread. Kids today are subjected to a mountain of homework each week and their parents must prod and goad them to finish it. You can encourage them to start the year strong by giving them a special space just for doing homework. Designate a place for them to put their papers as soon as they get home from school each day. You will spare everyone the headache of looking for missing assignments and parent forms.

10. Celebrate!

Congratulations, parents! You made it through the summer! Now take a breather and treat yourself to a quiet house house…until they come home in six hours.

15 Awesome Wedding Favors

15 Awesome Ideas for Wedding Favors

Wedding favors are one of the many ways you can show your gratitude to guests while modestly “wowing” them with your generosity. There is no rule that says you HAVE to give guests a favor at your wedding, but the gesture is always nice. Today’s bride is met with a wide variety of wedding favor options ranging from monogrammed beer koozies to to embossed Swarovski crystals. With so much to choose from we wanted to narrow down our top fifteen favorite favors. These are the wedding takeaways that will actually be enjoyed and not wind up in the junk drawer.

This roundup is so great you are going to want to gift everything! But we recommend that you choose a favor that both resonates with your theme and is something you would enjoy having. Just be leery of the favor-snatcher–every wedding has one. I know this because I myself am extremely stealthy in swooping up neglected favors. Especially if they are of the chocolate variety.

1. A Clean Start: Soap

While your wedding theme might not dictate such a calcified outlook on love *ahem* soap is always welcome. Give your guests the gift that keeps on giving with a beautiful, sweet-smelling, handmade soap. They can slip your special wedding label right off and use it for days on end.

15 totally awesome wedding favors

[source: Soap Savant]

2. Dance Floor Rescue: Flip-Flops

Besides your bridesmaids, a good 50% of your guests will forgo comfort and instead wear perilous heels. While stilettos might suffice during the seated ceremony, the dance floor is another story. You can discreetly acknowledge foolish shoes while ingratiating yourself to the multitude of blister-bearing fashionistas.

3. Consumable Goods: Coffee

If you reflect on your social circle, you will be hard-pressed to find a large group of non-coffee drinkers. Coffee is a social currency and you can give your guests something exceptional and memorable in a good brew. This can be a fun extension of your personality and a chance to showcase a local business by gifting each guest with several cups of ground bliss. You can DIY your favor bags or purchase some like the ones pictured below. Just make sure you pay it forward and let your guests know where their coffee is from so they can buy more!

4. It’s An Outdoor Venue: BUGS!

So you have this great venue and you get to have your dream wedding OUTSIDE with NATURE! When you envision the glorious culmination of months of planning, preparation, and, quite frankly, agonizing–the last thing you’re thinking of is the intrusion of native insects. Mosquitos, ants, and spiders oh my. That is the last thing you want you or your guests to worry about on your beautiful day. Enter bug spray: to be given at the BEGINNING of the ceremony lest anyone find themselves unprepared.

5. Spice It Up: Spice Blend

Like the coffee connoisseurs, there are many spice aficionados amongst us. If you find yourself to be part of this gourmand category why not gift some of your expertise to your guests in the form of a delicious spice blend? Whether its a BBQ rub, a salad sprinkle, or some part of a secret sauce–your guests will love this personal detail, and you’ll probably want to open your own spice shop afterwards [wink]. Think along the lines of something like this Sweet and Smokey BBQ Dry Rub Mix from the Kitchen Treaty:

6. Fresh Flowers for All

Here’s the thing–so many plants and flowers are used to carry out a beautiful wedding. However, we must ask who goes home with these beautiful greens? You can either regift some of your ceremony decor or purchase budget-friendly herbs to send home with your guests. Who wouldn’t want a pot of fresh basil? Or a sprig of clean mint? Yes, you can achieve a farmer’s market status with minimal effort.

7. Pucker Up For A Kiss

Chapstick. This might sound totally weird, but if you are a chapstick person–it won’t. Chapstick is a personal hygiene item of almost mythical qualities. Mythical in that it can completely disappear without a trace. That’s why a backup chapstick is always welcome. While 10% of your guests won’t be chapstick addicts, the other 90% will be oh so grateful for an extra tube.

8. Sweeter than Candy on a Stick

Candy is always a great option for favors. You can kill two birds with one stone by gifting this sweet treat and photo prop combo. You can display these favors by your photo booth. Guests will love taking selfies and then later eating these lollipops.

9. The Inside Scoop: A Wedding Program

For something totally disposable and totally funny you can opt for gifting a detailed wedding guide. Include humorous details about your wedding party, a tongue-in-cheek itinerary, and a warm thanks to your guests. You can be as elaborate as you want with this, but take a look at Offbeat Bride’s archives of funny wedding programs.

10. Spicy Love

You can never have too many choices when it comes to salsa and hot sauce. For an inexpensive and thoughtful favor you can make this salsa and gift it in cute little jars. What is great about this recipe is that you can make it ahead of time and freeze it before your big day. Enlist some friends and family and have a great night making salsa!

11. No Cold Feet

Have you ever attended an outdoor wedding that ended up being FREEZING? Weather can be an especially tricky force to plan around. If you live in an area with unpredictable weather, or you know that it will be cold at your venue–plan ahead with these fuzzy favors. Warm socks are always appreciated!

12. All I Got Was This Lousy Mug

Most people won’t put up with a mug with your wedding date on it…unless it’s funny! This couple chose to be funny while nodding towards the traditional mugs/koozies/cups that have a wedding date etched on them. You can bet I would keep that mug and smile every time I saw it.

13. A DIY That Guests Have To DIY

If your theme is more whimsical, you can opt for this fun treat. Who doesn’t love a candied apple? With minimal effort on your part, you can create a colorful and fun favor for your guests. What’s more, you can customize with M’n’Ms in your color scheme. Tying with a ribbon rather than baker’s twine can give this favor a more chic look overall. Check out the tutorial here.

14. Watch a Garden Grow

For the couple with eco-friendly intentions, these seed bombs are a great option for wedding favors. Handmade with hundreds of tiny seeds they promise to burst out with copious blooms. Even the worst gardener will be able to plant these babies.

15. A Meal They Will Never Forget

Ok, so if we speak for the majority, wedding food can be delicious but slightly lacking. After an exciting night of dancing, your guests will be ready for something more substantial. With minimal effort you can cement your big day as being the very best wedding they ever attended with a food truck. We recommend something greasy and belligerent. A meal that flies in the face of pretty gowns and flowery tabletops. Your guests will adore this parting gesture and your wedding will forever be remembered in a golden light.

Whatever you choose to gift to your guests, make sure it is a reflection of your personality! Have a unique idea for wedding favors? We’d love to hear from you!

Having Kids Attend Your Wedding

Tips for Having Kids at Your Wedding

One of the biggest dilemmas a couple will face when they plan their wedding is whether or not to include children on their guest list. On the one hand, inviting children can hinder a formal event and some venues are not necessarily kid-friendly. On the other hand, excluding children presents guests with the burden of finding childcare, and some guests just won’t be able to attend.

Many couples today are solving this problem by offering activities or services that allow for parents to bring their children. We’ve rounded up some of our favorite ways to keep kids entertained and parents happy at your wedding.

Tips For Having Kids Attend Your Wedding

Invite Mary Poppins

Do you know someone who is just insanely good with kids? Have a friend who is kindergarten teacher? If you know someone who is brilliant with children hire them to be the MC of your small guests. They will expertly move the kids around from activity to activity, and let the parents sit back and enjoy the night.

Your “Mary Poppins” can rally the kids on the dance floor, keep them away from the cake, and monitor when they need a change of scenery.

Set Tables for Kids

Oftentimes the reception meal isn’t served for quite a while, and if appetizers are available they are not necessarily kid-approved. You can talk with your caterer ahead of time and plan a simple plate of bananas, cheese and crackers, and apple slices for your younger guests. The last thing you want is a hungry toddler meltdown.

While your guests are eating, you can keep the kids sitting quietly at the table with some fun activities like coloring, games, and books.

Coloring Pages

A nice way to present coloring pages is to arrange pre-printed sheets on clipboards. Who doesn’t love a clipboard? Tie up some crayons in baker’s twine and voila! You have a darling souvenir for your tiny guests.

Mad Libs

Instead of a guestbook, place Mad Libs cards on every table. Guests can write out their marriage advice and a personal message for the bride and groom. Make sure you provide a kid-friendly version at tables where there are children. Hint: the kid cards are probably going to be one of your favorite mementos from your wedding! You can create your own Mad Libs cards, or you can purchase some like Something Turquoise on Etsy.

Photography Scavenger Hunt

Send kids on a photography scavenger hunt and they will capture moments you probably didn’t even know were happening! A great way to present this activity is to have a kids’ table with crayons and coloring sheets. Remember, kids are fast and eager to start activities right away. You can avoid burning through their activities by inviting them to play this game after they eat their food.

Arrange Your Venue With Kids in Mind

If your venue allows for it, section off an area of your reception space that is a kids-only zone. Here they can be a little wild without disturbing the rest of the party. Bring in some Ping Pong tables, hula-hoops, and even a Nintendo Wii. You can also have a Lego center and a crafts table. I have personally seen kids completely zone out for two hours with a box of Legos and a stack of coloring books. These are your currency for keeping small people chill.

Have a Quiet Room

Any mom who has attended a wedding with an infant will tell you that besides the bathroom, there is nowhere quiet to go and feed a baby. If some of your guests are bringing babies or toddlers consider providing a quiet room for moms to nurse and for toddlers to rest. Having a changing station and some comfy chairs will go far in making your guests feel both comfortable and welcome. You could even put a DVD player in there with a kid-friendly movie!

Plan ahead with your DJ

There is nothing cuter than seeing little kids get out on the dance floor and dance with the wedding party. These are some of the sweetest moments your photographer will capture.

Keeping kids entertained and parents happy at your wedding

Talk to your DJ beforehand about planning a few kid-friendly songs. Hint: Frozen’s “Let It Go” is the anthem of all little girls so even the shy ones will venture out if you blast some Elsa. Make sure you time kid-friendly songs earlier in the night as these guests will probably leave earlier than the rest.

Finally, just have fun! Not every couple chooses to invite children to their wedding, and that is totally fine. But should you choose to, we hope these tips help orchestrate the perfect day!

5 Things To Do With LED Ice Cubes

5 Things to Do with LED Ice Cubes

Here at Superior Celebrations we pride ourselves in having unique items that make parties and events exceptional. From sparklers, to confetti cannons, to sky lanterns, to cake sparklers–we have the tools to make your party memorable.

Sometimes it’s the small details that combine to make an event outstanding. For example, our small but mighty LED ice cubes are just the sort of detail that won’t go unnoticed by your guests. With six different modes, and a one-button click for operation, these waterproof cubes are the perfect detail to add to your occasion.

5 Things To Do With LED Ice Cubes

Cocktail Marker

An easy way to streamline your bar service and cut down on expense is to limit your bar menu. Offering your guests a “his and hers” menu allows the bartender to make multiple servings of the same cocktail in one mix.

This is also an opportunity to showcase your personality with your favorite drinks. You can display your menu in a beautiful sign and then mark the drinks with colorful LED ice cubes.

Illuminate Centerpieces

If your venue is particularly dark, one way to illuminate your tables is to use our LED ice cubes in your centerpiece. These cubes can alternate between red, yellow, green, blue, pink, and multi-color to give you a range of pigment to add to your table. They are especially helpful in bringing out vivid colors that would otherwise be lost in the dim lighting of your venue.

Gender Reveal Parties

A fun way to get guests involved in your gender reveal party is to have them pick a “team” to join. What will it be–Team Pink or Team Blue? Encourage guests to wear their color and have pink and blue accents at your party. If you’re looking for a creative way to find out the gender of your baby, check out our recently featured source! You can incorporate our LED ice cubes with your pink and blue theme.

Floating Lanterns

Another great use for our LED ice cubes is to use them instead of a votive candle for our Floating Water Lanterns. Water lanterns add a gorgeous ambience to venues that have pools, fountains, or lakes. Constructed with flame-retardant white paper, these lanterns pair beautifully with our LED ice cubes.

Water lanterns are a great accessory for pool parties, engagements, weddings, memorials, and nights on the lake. You can write messages or verses on the paper, or reuse them for future events. They add a magical luminescence to your evening.

Backyard Parties

Let’s be honest, when is there NOT a time to add flair to any get-together and call it a party? Here at Superior Celebrations, we celebrate every event–big or small–and have the tools to deliver. Throw some LED ice cubes into a pitcher at your next BBQ and just watch the ambiance change from casual BBQ to magical evening.

School hasn’t started yet–turn off all the lights and tell the kids you’re having a glowing lemonade party. Really, the possibilities are endless with LED ice cubes. They make every occasion just that much more fun.

However you choose to use our LED ice cubes, we know they will add that unforgettable element to your event. Tag us on Facebook and show us how you incorporate LED ice cubes in your party!

Featured Party: Gender Reveal Party

Featured Gender Reveal

Every mother-to-be is familiar with predictions about the gender of her unborn child. “You’re carrying low—must be a boy!” “You’re eating lots of sweets—that means you’re having a girl!” Everyone loves to weigh in on this particular topic of conversation. From friends and family to strangers in the supermarket, people are always interested in new life and predicting which direction it will go.

Finding out the gender of their unborn child is incredibly exciting to expectant couples. Today, many parents-to-be invite friends and family to participate in the fun of finding out. Gender reveal parties are almost as popular as baby showers these days.

In case you live under a rock, a “Gender Reveal” party is where the couple forgoes finding out the gender during the ultrasound and instead has the technician place a card indicating the gender in a sealed envelope. The “reveal” takes place in the presence of friends and family. Guests “weigh in” with their predictions by wearing pink or blue, and no matter which “team” wins it’s always great fun all around.

Gender reveal parties are the kind of events that can be low-key or amped up depending on the crowd. Either way, finding out the gender of a new baby is a great reason to get together and celebrate! Decor is always straightforward–pink and blue everything, and you’re good to go!

Gender Reveal Table Decor

There are a number of ways to announce the news at gender reveal parties. One the most popular ways is to have a bakery fill a cake with either pink or blue filling. Another trend is to have the couple blow into a pink and blue balloon, the actual gender being the one that inflates while the other balloon is popped beforehand. Other gender reveal methods include silly string, pinatas, boxes full of balloons, and even color powder. When it comes to gender reveal parties, the sky really is the limit!

One of our personal favorite ways to reveal the gender is by using our Gender Reveal Confetti Kit! This kit includes two of our 12-inch confetti cannons, one with blue confetti, and one with pink confetti. Containing a mixture of metallic mylar and paper confetti, our cannons launch about 10 feet into the air.

Gender Reveal Confetti Cannon Kit

Expecting parents, Bryant and Sarah chose to use our confetti cannons at their gender reveal party and we just love the fun and casual vibes that radiate from their party. What more could you expect from a couple who announces their pregnancy with legendary band teeshirts?

Bryant, Sarah, and Boston

Friends and family gathered at Bryant’s family’s home for a BBQ. The “teams” were divided pretty equally and Bryant said that the main objective was just to hang out and celebrate the new baby.

Sarah and Bryant

With all the pink and blue going on around them, Bryant had to placate big brother Boston with his own orange balloon. It’s important to recognize the status of older siblings at these shindigs.

After lunch was served and votes were cast, the whole crowd was ready to witness the momentous gender reveal!

Our gender reveal confetti cannons come in a pack of two and arrive with top-secret instruction to insure nothing gets leaked! Bryant had his aunt launch the confetti cannon so that he, Sarah, and Boston could enjoy watching the confetti pop.

It’s a boy!! The magic of these confetti cannons are not lost on Boston. Look at his sweet face absorbing the big news!

Congratulations, Bryant, Sarah, and Boston! Thank you for letting Superior Celebrations be a part of your big day!

If you or someone you know is looking for a fun and creative way to have a gender reveal party, we encourage you to use our Gender Reveal Confetti Kit. From the first POP to the final falling piece of confetti, our cannons are a magical way to announce your little boy or girl to the world!

Five Summer Parties for Tweens and Teens

5 Summer Parties for Teens

Summer is in full swing but there is still plenty of time to host some amazing parties! Here at Superior Celebrations, we like to think outside the box. Today, we’re focusing on our tween and teen audience and picking out the best party ideas with them in mind. These activities/themes take summer parties to a different level and we know you’ll have a blast just planning your next event.

Five Summer Parties for Teens

Outdoor Movie Night

Who doesn’t love to watch a movie under the stars? You don’t have to have fancy equipment to rig up your own outdoor screen. With a basic projector and some sheets you can assemble a quaint little set-up in your own backyard. Lay out a few blankets, pillows, and lawn chairs for a cozy evening outside.

DIY Concession Stand

You can make your outdoor theater as fancy or casual as you want, but one thing we do recommend having is popcorn. Your kids will likely never forget the night their backyard became a movie theater, so go the extra mile with a smashing popcorn bar. Click MomAdvice to download some free printable labels for your popcorn bar. Remember, don’t skimp on the toppings!

Water Parties

While pool parties are your classic summertime activity, we wanted to take the water theme a step further. How about planning an entire party around ridiculously fun water games?

Kickball Slip-n-Slide

Take kickball–a simple, and fun game. What if you add a slip-n-slide to the kickball field? Actually, make that four slip-n-slides. What ensues is a wild and fun game where everyone ends up soaked. While kids would absolutely love to play this game, we recommend you don’t have teens and children play together. Giant bodies slamming into little ones is just not a good idea. This video shows just how crazy this game can be–doesn’t it look like a blast?

Giant Slip-n-Slide

While we are on the subject of slip-n-slides, how about turning a hillside into an epic summer sledding session? This will definitely require multiple tarps/slip-n-slides, but if you have the space it would be an epic way to spend the day. Use intertubes, inflatable rafts, and pool floaties as sleds!

Glow-in-the-Dark Party

A big trend right now among tweens and teens is to have glow-in-the-dark parties. There are a ton of fun ways to execute this party theme, and we have you covered on all fronts. It’s best to have a large room or open area where you can install a black light for the night. This isn’t essential, but it will make all the colors pop.

Glowing Tablescape

Set up a table with a neon tablecloth and load it with glow-in-the-dark items. Use glow-in-the-dark Frosted Events to outline plates, and Frosted Events to place at the base of plastic cups. We have a large variety of colors to choose from, but our Frosted Events are on sale right now–buy one, get one free!

LED Ice Cubes

We also suggest you place several pitchers of punch or water on the table with our Frosted Events. These reusable cubes have six different modes to set at your choice. They are a bright and fun novelty to include in your table scheme.

Glowing Party Favors

You can outfit your guests with Frosted Events or color changing Frosted Events. Both of these make fun party favors!

Glow in the dark party ideas

Games in the Dark

There are a bunch of classic games that become so much more interesting and entertaining when you add in a glow-in-the-dark element.

Capture the Flag

Capture the flag is one of those games that really gets under your skin. While speed and agility play large factors in winning, it’s really just a big game about strategy–and that’s why it’s fun for teens! You can take capture the flag to the next level by having players use Frosted Events as flags! In case you forgot how to play capture the flag, you can refresh your memory Frosted Events.

Glow-in-the-dark Twister

Another fun glow-in-the-dark game is Twister. Using glow acrylic paints, a big sheet, and some stencils you should be able to make your very own glowing Twister game. Remember to pair this with some fun, techno music for optimal effect.

There are a number of other simple games that can be improved by glow-in-the-dark materials. Bowling, ring toss, and even volley ball become so much more exciting when played in the dark.

Messy Party

There is something so luxuriously grand about getting absolutely soaked, slimed, and messy. What are summer camps without relays ending in slime, or faces slammed in pudding pies? Ah, youth. In the spirit of messy camp activities, here are a few of our favorites that can easily be done in a small scale party.

Masterpiece Slip-n-Slide

We love this idea from Our Little Women where students get to make themselves a “masterpiece” by sliding onto paint. The result is messy, fun, and uplifting.

Paint War

As long as everyone is informed that their clothes will be ruined, a paint war is an epic battle tweens and teans will love. Have multiple buckets on hand, sponges, and even paint-filled balloons to ensure you get the messiest, most colorful result possible. Oh, and please have a camera present but protected.

Color Powder Finale

If you are planning any sort of obstacle course or relay race, we suggest you finish off with our color powder cannons. A blast of vivid color will make your event so much more memorable. Our color powder cannons are filled with water soluble rice powder making them a cinch to clean up after.
